Property owners who filed their appeals for real estate property tax assessment with the Orleans Parish Assessor on or before August 20, 2024 will be receiving letter from the New Orleans City Council, acting in their capacity as the Board of Review, as early as September 10th for hearings from September 14th through September 29th. The letter will notify all appellants of the date and time of their hearing.

In order to comply with State law, the board of Review must certify the tax rolls to the Louisiana Tax Commission by October 20, 2024.

Should the appellant choose to submit the appeal without a telephone video or in person hearing, they can rest assured knowing that the request and all evidence will be considered at length by the hearing officer prior to submitting their recommendation to the Board of Review. Regardless of the outcome, the appellant will still have the ability to appeal to the tax commission if they are not happy with the Board of Review Decision. The Board of Review advises property owners to work with the Orleans Parish Assessor to resolve their appeal. A mutually acceptable, negotiated resolution is the quickest and most effective way to resolve a disputed real estate property tax assessment. The Board of Review has contracted with Hammerman & Gainer, LLC to help process the appeals and provide recommendations to the Board of Review, which will be held in open City Council Chambers.
